It's rather gorgeous out and the house smells like bacon, which is not a bad combination at all. (The old house always smelled like something was cooking). But I'm not happy because of *that*...
In June, my family moved to Asheville, North Carolina. Now, I have no problem with visiting the south for a week or so, going to the beach, playing mini-golf or whatever. But I do have a problem with living here. My history teacher has it all wrong (he forgot the Battle of Trenton, and he teaches the Revolutionary War!! wtf?), no-one can pronounce my name, and people are (I hate to say it) almost a bit stupider at my new school. I don't particularly care for the new house, and I miss my old friends and I miss Princeton University, which was my second home.
I may not be returning to New Jersey next year, but I will, at least, be leaving North Carolina. :) Today I'm sending the pre-application for the AFS year abroad program... you have to put your preferred three countries on the list, and I'm having issues narrowing it down. The list will PROBABLY be France, Switzerland, Austria (in that order), but you can select Scandinavia as a region for one of your three options, and that's mighty tempting, though I'd prefer not to end up in Greenland, as Denmark will often send students there or to the Faroe Islands.
Anyway, I'm excited as hell, even though I wouldn't leave for 11 or 12 months. It's my little chance to be hopeful, so I'm going to enjoy it as much as possible, believe me.
Inspired by Virginia Bell, this is a sort of 'hello' post to ... the three people currently in my 'neighbourhood'. Hi guys.
I'm Anissa, and I like kangaroos (understatement of the century right there). American by birth, Algerian by blood, international by nature and of a rather liberal bent, I'm a bizarre mix of the uberfeminine and the masculine and the stylish and the nerdy. Hobbies & interests include classical music (Chopin, Mozart, Tchaikovsky), politics, sports cars, fencing, the Philadelphia Eagles, haute couture, Real Madrid, and American history. I grew up in Princeton, NJ, and only just moved to North Carolina a few months ago, and to be honest, I'm not too fond of it. At all. I have serious issues with Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, etc., and really wish people could take the time to learn that style is not orange skin and giant Fendi bags for the sake of making oneself look skinnier by comparison - but if I catch you mocking Madonna or Kate Moss, you might not live to see tomorrow. Just keep that in mind. :)
